Media Release - It's time to declare a Southern Highlands - Wollondilly National Park

15 June 2026

We’ve been working hard to expand the Wollondilly and Southern Highlands National Park around the Bargo River Gorge in the North, Mount Alexandra in the South of Wollondilly and further south towards Morton National Park.

This week, the Southern Highlands Wildlife Sanctuary launched a community-led petition to create the Southern Highlands-Wollondilly National Park connecting Crown lands to the adjacent National Parks, into a single landscape-scale conservation strategy with a coordinated vision for the future. The time for action is now. Let us protect vulnerable flora and fauna including disease-free koalas and their habitats.

Without action, the lands surrounding National Parks will be left in fragmented Crown land management with no investment or protection of the unique bushland corridors to protect cultural heritage and vulnerable flora and fauna.

To sign and share the petition around, simply download the QR code or  visit my website https://www.judyhannan.com.au/southern_highlands_national_park_petition to sign the e-petition online. Take action now before the petition closes. Please consider forwarding this petition to your friends, family, and neighbours. To sign a NSw ePetition, confirm you are a resident of New South Wales

Quote from Judy Hannan MP, Member for Wollondilly:

“I am really happy to endorse the petition and thank the Southern Highlands Wildlife Sanctuary for leading this campaign, calling for real change to resources for all flora and fauna in Southern Sydney.”
