It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing on 20 September 2023 of Deputy Captain Peter "Grump" Fenning of Buxton Rural Fire Brigade. A mentor to many and a legend to all, Peter dedicated 43 years to the brigade. His leadership shone in various capacities, most notably during his 13-year stint as our captain, guiding us through some of the nation's worst fires. He was more than a firefighter, he was a friend, father and grandfather—a beacon in our community. Peter was known for his unwavering commitment to training, community engagement and firefighting. His wisdom and counsel were as steady as his resolve, making him an irreplaceable member of our brigade and the larger Buxton community. His legacy will endure in the stories we share, the values he instilled and the community he served. Rest in peace, Grump. Your leadership, friendship and dedication will never be forgotten.
