The 17th April saw a powerful Memorial Ceremony marking the 209th anniversary of the Appin Massacre, honouring the Dharawal People who were massacred in 1816. It was a privilege to stand alongside Aboriginal Elders, families, friends, community members, and representatives from all levels of government to honour the Dharawal people. This annual memorial serves as a solemn and powerful reminder of our shared history—and a call to continue the journey toward truth, understanding, and lasting respect. Let's continue to grow as a united, compassionate community. With the sound of the cascading Cataract Dam behind us, we were reminded of the enduring flow of life and the good things it brings. Nature, community, and connection: these are the gifts we must cherish together. We must always value the customs and traditions of the First Nations people who have cared for this land for tens of thousands of years. Our shared future must be built on foundations of understanding, respect, and reconciliation. We are deeply sorry. We will remember them.
