Community Recognition - Brian Williams

22nd December, 2025.

As the Member for Wollondilly, I pay tribute to Brian Williams, who passed away on 7th December 2025 after battling illness. As president of our local advocacy group, Brian was a tireless guardian of our region's wellbeing and environment. His passion stemmed from deep care—for families impacted by planning decisions, for our bushland, waterways, and open spaces, and for fairness in every proposal. Brian's meticulous reviews of reports uncovered overlooked issues, ensuring policymakers were held accountable. He asked tough questions, checked assumptions, and declared, "something is rotten in South West Sydney," inspiring calls for a Royal Commission into the planning system. His advocacy—engaging media, politicians, and communities—brought professionalism and courage, preventing unnecessary harms and shaping wiser decisions. Brian's legacy endures in preserved landscapes and balanced policies. A researched legal mind, he held others to account with facts and integrity, never wavering against injustice. Sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the Macarthur and Wollondilly communities. His courage, kindness, and dedication inspire us to continue his work—looking closely, thinking carefully, and caring deeply. May he rest in peace.
