Community Recognition - Congratulations to Taylor 'Chip' Hanson

24th October, 2024.

For more than a decade, Chip has been a key figure at Wollondilly Leisure Centre where his kindness, patience, and infectious enthusiasm have earned him a special place in the hearts of students and colleagues alike. His approach to teaching—marked by energy, compassion, and a personal touch—creates an inclusive space that fosters confidence and growth in all of his students. Chip's contributions have been recognised with being named Swim Teacher of the Year at the 2024 Aquatic and Recreation Institute NSW Awards of Excellence. He is the first person with Down Syndrome to receive the award and the award highlights Chip's remarkable dedication to swimming. His passion for the sport has been evident since his early days in Learn to Swim, and his success at the Down Syndrome National Championships in 2016 and 2017 are just a few examples of his hard work and talent. With the guidance of his mentor Steph Barnes, Chip has continuously developed both as a swimmer and a teacher, becoming an irreplaceable member of the Wollondilly and Belgravia Leisure teams and made a positive impact on so many.
