Community Recognition - Dr Deidre Tronson OAM

Dr Deidre Tronson of Werombi has had lifelong passion for science and I am honoured to congratulate her on being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her services to science education.

Deidre’s extensive career includes roles as Lecturer at Western Sydney University (WSU), CoSupervisor of postgraduate research in Natural Products and Honorary Adjunct Fellow at the Centre for Plant and Food Sciences. Other accolades include being a Royal Australian Chemical Institute Fellow, Member of the Western Sydney Section,  Examiner for the Annual Honours Prize Western Sydney Section, and Co-Recipient of the WSU Vice Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Award.  Her research and teaching have been widely published in science journals and HSC textbooks.

Since 2009, Dr Tronson has been a key contributor to the Science in Schools Scheme at Camden Public School where she co-developed the “Superior Scientists” program for Year 5–6 students. In retirement, she is sharing her research skills and passion for science with students.

Dr Tronson’s enduring enthusiasm for science, her academic and community achievements, and her continued mentorship exemplify her tireless commitment to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and discovery in learners of all ages.
