On the 7th November, Thirlmere local legend Ray Jones was remembered with the unveiling of a memorial seat outside the Thirlmere Pharmacy. Ray was instrumental in starting the Thirlmere Festival of Steam, as former President of the Thirlmere Chamber of Commerce. This event has grown to be a yearly highlight, enjoyed by many residents and visitors. He was loved as a local at the Welcome Inn Hotel and was instrumental in saving the pedestrian crossing outside the school. His friendship with both former Councillor Michael Banasik and Councillor Suzy Brandstater, was warmly remembered today at the plaque unveiling. His wife Penny spoke of his love for the town, and it was a pleasure and honour to share this moment with their family. His legacy will be remembered for the impact that he made on those who knew him, and those who will benefit from his contributions to Wollondilly. Stop by and have a rest on the bench when you are in Thirlmere, and reflect on the contributions of people like Ray, who give so much for the betterment of their community.
