The Bloc Dance Academy of Bargo recently represented Wollondilly at the Showcase Australian Dance Championship, the largest dance event in Australia. Traveling to the Gold Coast to compete against dance studios from around Australia and New Zealand, the Bloc's dance troupes dazzled in all genres that they competed in, including jazz, lyrical, contemporary hip hop and tap dance. The dance groups secured several placings of first, second and third. With ages ranging from under 6 up to 16, these young dancers show what can be achieved with dedication, hard work and team spirit. They were backed by the support of parents and families, as well as local sponsors. The Bloc is an inclusive and creative space where the youth of Wollondilly can develop their confidence, self-expression and leadership skills, while reaping the benefits of a physical pursuit. Their caring teachers encourage the students to be the best they can be, and to have fun. Their placings at the Dance Championships speak to the hard work and dedication of the academy, and are a well‑deserved result.
