The New South Wales local government elections on 14 September are well awaited in the Southern Highlands electorate of Wingecarribee, where, after three years of being under administration, residents will yet again have a local council consisting of members from their community. Within my electorate of Wollondilly sit two local councils. In the north is Wollondilly Shire Council, covering areas such as Picton and Tahmoor. In the south is Wingecarribee Shire Council, with suburbs including Mittagong, Bowral and Burradoo. Wingecarribee has been under the administration of the experienced and capable administrator, Viv May, who, along with the general manager, Lisa Miscamble, has worked hard to put the council in a good position ready to be guided to future successes with the newly elected council. I thank Mr May for his dedication to Wingecarribee over the past few years in a role which was filled with challenges. I wish all candidates well in the lead-up to the elections. I am pleased to witness the excitement within the communities as we look forward to welcoming newly elected, truly independent councillors to form councils that are inclusive and open to all.
