20th September, 2024.
When commuting to the Wollondilly Electorate Office in Tahmoor in the morning, I often see students from Picton High School using the new shareway pathway to cycle or walk to school along with other residents. It's fantastic to witness the community staying active, enjoying the outdoors, getting out and about in the fresh air. The 2.4km long pedestrian shareware now connects Tahmoor to Picton along Remembrance Driveway (Old Hume Highway), providing residents with an alternate transport option. On the 1st August 2024 the shareway was officially opened and I was joined on the day by Mayor Matt Gould, the deputy mayor, current and former Wollondilly Shire Councillors, Wollondilly Shire Council CEO Ben Taylor, council staff and the Western Earth Moving Construction Team. The completed project includes retaining walls, refuge islands, a rest area at the halfway point, as well as road and stormwater improvements. This wonderful initiative was made possible by funding from the NSW State Government's 'Resources for Regions' program and Wollondilly Shire Council development contributions. This safe and accessible shareway is a great asset to the towns, and I look forward to seeing more cycleways throughout Wollondilly.
