Doreen Lyon is a local artist, author, historian and volunteer who has been recognised for her contributions to The Oaks Historical Society and the Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum with the awarding of the 2024 Certificate of Achievement by the Royal Australian Historical Society. The society's objectives are to advance education in the field of Australian history. Doreen has contributed greatly to preserving Wollondilly's varied and rich history through her dedication and work. Doreen, who lives in Thirlmere, attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Blackpool Tech in the United Kingdom and studied museum studies at the University of Sydney. Her creativity and skills are shown in the artworks she creates—some of which I am lucky to have on display in my electorate office—as well as her bookmaking, including her first book on Thirlmere Lakes.
