Professor David Sanderson of the Southern Highlands has long demonstrated a commitment to disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and this is reflected in his new book, Letting Go: The Future of Humanitarian Aid and Development. At a time when disasters are increasing across New South Wales, and with Wingecarribee Shire among the most disaster-declared local government areas in the state, David's work has never been more relevant or essential. Against a backdrop of shrinking resources and escalating crises, David is leading important conversations about how recovery efforts can be delivered more effectively, and how local knowledge can inform policy for stronger, more resilient communities. While his book examines major international humanitarian events, the lessons resonate locally. Wollondilly and the Southern Highlands have faced bushfires and floods, reinforcing the importance of preparedness and recovery efforts at every scale. Professor Sanderson is the Inaugural Judith Neilson Chair in Architecture at the University of NSW and a regular lecturer at Harvard University. He is also involved in his local community, in 24–25, David serving as Co-Vice President of the Mittagong Public School P&C. He also actively supports his daughter's Girl Guides unit. Congratulations, David, on publishing this important book.
