I was flushed with pride to be asked to officially open the new fully accessible toilet block at the north-eastern end of the stunning Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens. The project was made possible by the Stronger Country Communities Fund program funded by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. This facility is already proving its worth with volunteers working across the gardens, visitors arriving from the carpark, families enjoying the playground, and joggers and walkers making use of the park. It has been wonderful to watch this garden grow. The seed of an idea planted over 22 years ago has flourished into a treasured space for both locals and visitors. Carefully nurtured and beautifully maintained, it is a true asset for the highlands and a haven for local wildlife in the heart of East Bowral. I congratulate all the volunteers, board members and friends for their tireless efforts. A special congratulations to Peter Evans on his recent appointment as chairperson, and heartfelt thanks to the formidable Charlotte Webb, the outgoing chair. Fittingly, Charlotte will now take on the role of CEO to continue growing the story into the future.
