Community Recognition Statement - Tribute to Sue Gay

4th August, 2026.

Sue Gay was a passionate and tireless advocate for wildlife conservation, whose dedication left a lasting mark on the Wollondilly community. Alongside her husband, John, at their home on Appin Road, Sue devoted many years to protecting the unique environment of the Appin area, becoming one of the strongest voices for the preservation of koalas and their habitat. Sue was deeply involved in numerous campaigns to save koalas, particularly those affected by increasing development and traffic. She understood that protecting wildlife was about more than conserving a single species; it was about preserving the natural heritage of the region for future generations. A fiercely loyal friend and community member, Sue approached every cause with courage, honesty and conviction. She was equally devoted to her family, of whom she was immensely proud, and they remained at the heart of everything she did. The Wollondilly community has lost a remarkable advocate whose voice made a real difference. She will be remembered with gratitude, admiration and affection by all whose lives she touched. Personally, I will miss her advice and our chats about the frustrating local political landscape.
