Wingecarribee Shire Council invests heavily in its trainee, cadet and apprenticeship program in order to provide a pathway for the next generation of local government employees Wingecarribee Shire Council, has received funding for nine new positions under the program. This Council has made a commitment to have 5 percent of the workforce made up of cadets, trainees and apprentices. Currently, Council has 19 occupied roles, representing 3.5 percent of the organisation, with a number of other roles currently going through recruitment processes. Council has engaged cadets in a number of roles, including Cadet Engineer Design, Student Cadet Planner and Cadet Strategic Planner roles. This reflects a strong commitment to building capability in Council's planning and development functions and supporting the future growth of the community. The success of the program is demonstrated through career progression outcomes, with former cadets advancing into senior roles, including Coordinator Strategy and Place, Senior Development Assessment Planner and Project Manager. This program is a part of the NSW Government and Minister for Local Government, the Hon Ron Hoenig's implementation of the Fresh Start program.
