From the beginning, when Charlotte and Chris Webb presented the dream of a public garden for the highlands, plans took root. While the region is blessed with extraordinary owners of open gardens, Charlotte and Chris had a vision for something different: a place open to all, where nature, learning and community could thrive together. The bunya tree was set proudly at the centre of the pavilion, creating a focal point to celebrate the many achievements realised over the years. Through the dedication of the Webbs, the board, volunteers, major donors, supporters and open garden owners over nearly three decades, the vision has blossomed into the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens we know today. Millions of dollars have been raised through countless plant fairs and open garden days. With true grit and determination, the inevitable ups and downs of the journey were embraced. The gardens are alive with activity, from tiny tots in the playground to Parkrun on Saturday mornings, from workshops and education sessions to the nursery that provides much of the planting across the ground's understorey layers. I warmly congratulate Charlotte and Chris on their amazing vision.
