Doreen Lyon's story is one of curiosity, creativity and lifelong community contribution. From her childhood on dairy farms, where she developed a strong work ethic and love of learning, to her studies in graphic design at Blackpool School of Arts, Doreen has always combined practical skill with creative vision. Since arriving in Australia in 1973 with her husband, Ben, and their young family, Doreen has played a role in shaping the cultural and historical life of our community. Moving to Wollondilly, she quickly became involved in local life, including helping to establish the Oaks Historical Society in 1979. Over decades of dedicated volunteer work, Doreen has been instrumental in developing the society and its museum into a respected cultural institution. Doreen's commitment to heritage, education and community connection has left a lasting legacy. As she retires, I thank her for her extraordinary service and the enduring contribution she has made to Wollondilly's history and identity.
