Community Recognition - Steve Cheers

Congratulations to Steve Cheers on being nominated in the 2026 Wingecarribee Citizen of the Year Award, part of this year's Australia Day celebrations. Steve has played an integral role in the Southern Highlands musical and culture space, with his constant effort and energy ensuring that it is a vibrant and thriving part of the performing arts in the area. Well known as the founder of popular music school Powerpoint Music Centre and School along with his wife Geralyn, Steve has been encouraging a love of music in people for many years, making a high-quality music education accessible to students of all ages, with a particular focus on the development and opportunities for young musicians. Steve is also the President of the Highlands Theatre Group, an active and successful group which runs workshops, performances and volunteer programs. His passionate advocacy for arts in the region has strengthened the area's cultural offerings, and created opportunities for people to join together in their support for the performing arts, making a vital contribution to the community. Thank you Steve for your efforts over many years in connecting people through creativity, purpose and culture.
