Community Recognition - The Koalas Screening

8th August, 2024.

I inform the House that on 6 July, I was delighted to attend the screening of the film The Koalas at Narellan. The film is, to quote its tagline, 'a movie… about survival'. It tells stories of resilience of an iconic species in the face of threatened extinction in the wild and highlights the need for better land management solutions. I want to commend Gregory Miller and Georgia Wallace-Crabbe, the producers and directors of the film, for their work in putting it together. The question and answer session that followed enabled me to hear about what led us to this point and I am still full of hope that our koalas will be saved. The Koalas, which stars koala rescuers, carers, advocates, conversationalists and veterinarians from across the country, is a reminder that we all have a duty to advocate for koalas and to ensure that we fight to protect them. We are yet to turn the corner, but the hard work of our advocates is vital to the survival of our cutest residents. I encourage all residents who care for the preservation of these koalas to see the film and I commend it to the House.
