5th August, 2025.
The kindergarten students at The Oaks Public School kicked off NAIDOC Week 2025 with a powerful and heartfelt project called the Deadly Doors and Walls, a vibrant showcase of culture, creativity, and community. Their classroom project, raising chickens and ducklings, tied beautifully into this year's theme: The Next Generation – Strength, Vision and Legacy. Slogans like "Together We Walk" and "we all belong" were proudly displayed, reminding us that NAIDOC is a journey we take side by side, united in respect and purpose. From eagles with powerful wings and eucalyptus leaf motifs to footprints and bark textures from local Melaleuca species, each class transformed their doorway into a meaningful mixed media artwork. And all of this was done with careful thought so the doors could still function every day—art meeting practicality. It was inspiring to see so many students involved, with many stepping forward unprompted to explain their class's process, what the theme meant to them, and how they worked together to bring it to life. Congratulations to the dedicated teachers, parents, and caregivers who supported the students in creating these extraordinary Deadly Doors. What a wonderful initiative.
