Wingecarribee Shire Council has staged another uplifting and well attended Australia Day celebration for 2026. Held in the historic village of Berrima, the day brought together members of the community to celebrate new citizens in the Citizenship Ceremony as well as the much anticipated Australia Day awards. Australia Day ambassador Kumar Pereira - cook, author and culinary educator, shared his inspirational experiences of his involvement in community initiatives. The Wingecarribee Citizen of the Year was awarded to Skye Leicester for her extensive work with children and youth in the Highlands as President of the Bowral District Children's Foundation. Chloe Ward was the well deserving winner of the Young Citizen of the Year 2026 Award for her leadership in environmental sustainability, community service and youth advocacy. The morning included market stalls, activities and music, capped off with the Grand Parade at midday.
