Community Recognition - Wombatised Inc.

14th November, 2024.

Wombatised Inc. have been awarded a $5,500 grant from the Southern Highlands Community Foundation to continue to do their valuable work for wombats. Wombatised Inc. is a volunteer-run wildlife rehabilitation, education and rescue group whose members care for native animals that have been injured or orphaned. Wombats and other native animals face ever increasing threats from traffic, disease like the devastating mange as well as being buried alive in their burrows when land is bulldozed for housing developments. Wombatised endeavours to enhance veterinary care, improve wildlife hospital facilities, and integrate wildlife education into schools across the Southern Highlands. They support veterinarians in wombat health, provide field treatment for diseases such as mange, and promote careers in native animal care, ensuring sustainable support for local native wildlife. The Southern Highlands Community Foundation grant will be used in their Soft Release Project, which will allow for rehabilitating and rehoming wombats on private rural land, through the use of portable metal pens, encouraging engagement and a sense of responsibility in locals to advocate for our wildlife.
