As chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Koalas and someone who brought a petition of 20,977 signatures to the previous Parliament, I am ecstatic about the announcement of the Koala Care Centre. I thank the Minister and Government for listening to our community in Macarthur.
The koala population of Wollondilly needs all the protection it can get. My constituents actively - and all too regularly - contact me with news of another koala killed by a car on our roads, having a rescue care centre will do wonders in protecting our koala population.
Details of the Koala Care Centre to be based at the University of Sydney, Camden campus within the Wollondilly electorate at Cobbitty have come after the announced funding from the 2023-24 budget here: https://www.judyhannan.com.au/speech_koala_national_park_and_funding_welcomed and https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/news/5-million-to-care-for-koalas-in-sydneys-south-west.
