Since 1996 and the establishment of the NSW Institute of Sport, each Government has supported Athletes in a number of ways. The funding for the Pursu32+ Regional Talent Program, run by the Regional Academies of Sport including the local South West Sydney Academy of Sport.
“When I heard funding was uncertain for the local South West Sydney Academy of Sport, I lobbied the Government. I have been an active supporter of the above sports academy for over 20 years. Its CEO, Mr Gerry Knight, has been an incredible leader of impeccable character for all those years. This academy has produced many athletes for state and national teams including Olympic medalists” said Judy Hannan MP.
“In April I wrote in concern as the NSW Government re-evaluated budget funding including this vital program. The funding for the next year will go a long way at allowing the Academy to continue its work not only producing wonderful athletes but even better individuals of the community” said Judy Hannan MP
Mr Gerry Knights, CEO of South West Area Academy of sport thanked Judy Hannan MP for her effort. “I am pleased to advise that through your advocacy and that of your fellow Members of Parliament from within the South West Sydney region and across NSW, the Minister for Sport The Hon. Steve Kamper has advised that there will be an amount of $1,400,000 provided to the Regional Academy collective, from within the 2024 NSW Budget, to ensure the ongoing operation of the Pursu32+ project, over the next 12 months” said Mr Knights.
