The Minns Labor Government is continuing work to create connected communities by investing in new and upgraded road projects, with milestones reached for both the Picton Road Upgrade and Picton Bypass.
Picton Road Upgrade
The Picton Road upgrade has taken a major step forward with a contract awarded to develop design options for the central and eastern sections of the projects.
The upgrade of the roadway between Almond Street at Wilton and the M1 Princes Motorway will ensure safer and more reliable journeys for the 22,000 motorists who use this route each day.
Following a competitive tender process, a contract has been awarded to AECOM Australia and Stantec Australia joint venture to carry out field investigations, define constraints and develop design options for the central and eastern sections of the Picton Road upgrade.
The successful contractor will have team members on the ground in the local area over the coming months, carrying out investigations to fully understand all the factors that may influence the design.
These investigations will help to identify key considerations and constraints in relation to biodiversity, heritage, geology, soils, water quality, land use, utilities, and traffic and transport, to inform early work on project design options.
The Minns Labor Government will continue to work with the local community, including Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan on the future of this project.
Picton Bypass
Planning for a future bypass in Picton has also reached a significant milestone with the release of the tender for the development of the concept design and Review of Environmental Factors.
$18 million is being invested by both the State and Federal Government, to undertake a comprehensive planning process, which will look at everything from geotechnical considerations, topographical issues through to biodiversity impacts and Aboriginal heritage investigations.
This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s ongoing work to deliver well planned projects which will improve the connectivity and liveability of communities by easing traffic flow and improving journey time.
