Media Release - Tender Call for Picton Bypass Concept Planning

13 June 2024

In an important step forward for a future Picton Bypass, Transport for NSW has officially called for expressions of interest to develop concept designs for the project.

A future Picton Bypass would help alleviate traffic down Argyle Street in Picton while providing an alternate route out of the town in times of emergencies including bushfire and flood.

A proposed bypass would also provide an alternate route for heavy vehicles by linking Thirlmere and Tahmoor with the Hume Motorway via Picton Road.

Transport for NSW is accepting applications from interested parties until July 5 through an expression of interest process. An assessment on the preferred organisation will be evaluated with engagement scheduled later in 2024.

QUOTES BELOW FROM JUDY HANNAN MP

This is welcome news and shows we are committed to finding a workable bypass for the people of Picton and the surrounding villages. I thank the Government for listening to me and the residents of Wollondilly.

We have been recently reminded again of the need to find a solution with the community having to recently prepare for potential flooding and the possibility of Picton being cut-off.

For too long the community has needed this solution and I am proud to have this significant step towards the completion of the bypass for Picton.
