Earlier this week I attended the sod turning for Warradale Men's Shed with Mayor Matt Gould and Ben Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, Wollondilly Shire Council, with community members and of course Warradale Men's Shed members.
This sod turning event for construction of the new men’s shed took place on Council owned land in Marsh Road, Warragamba. The Warradale Men’s Shed project is financially supported by a $256,372 NSW Government community grant.
The site of the sod turning event will become the permanent location of the relocated Warradale Men’s Shed - one of the first Men's Sheds established in Wollondilly. The Warradale Men’s Shed first opened in the town hall, operated from the old Thirlmere Rural Fire Service shed near the NSW Rail Museum in Thirlmere and since 2019, the Men’s Shed operated on the grounds of the Warragamba Workers and Sporting Club.
Judy Hannan MP quote:
“These organisations allow our community to connect, and I have been keen to work with each to ensure their good work can continue. Men’s Sheds across the Wollondilly electorate supports men's health, wellbeing, social connection, and community projects, including intergenerational woodwork programs.”
“The Warradale Men’s Shed project is a long awaited project that has taken many years to coordinate with many stakeholders. The permanent shed on Marsh Road, Silverdale would provide much needed long-term tenure, and convenient, regular access to the mental health, wellbeing, volunteer disaster resilience and woodworking benefits offered by the Warradale Men’s Shed.”
