3rd February, 2026.

I was pleased to attend the Wollondilly Shire Council Australia Day Ceremony for 2026, held in Picton Botanic Gardens. There was a large number of new Australian citizens receiving their citizenship certificates and we welcome everyone with open arms and warmth. Australia Day ambassador Michael Crossland gave an inspirational speech about his experiences and the importance of hope, resilience, and purpose. The much anticipated Wollondilly Australia Day awards were announced, recognising those who have contributed selflessly to our community. Wollondilly Citizen of the Year is Sue Peacock. Robert Fairley was awarded the Lifetime Service Award and Troy Sitkowski was recognised as Wollondilly's Young Citizen of the Year. Elise Pardy received the Disability Inclusion Award, Warradale Men's Shed received the Local Hero (Community Group), Linda McCarthy received the Local Hero (Individual), Caitlyn Halse received the Sportsperson of the Year, Nicole Hanger received the Achiever of the Year, Stephanie and Sean Powell received the Environmental Citizens of the Year and the Robin Davies Wollondilly Community Nursery received the Community Recognition Award. The morning ceremonies were followed with a range of activities for everyone to enjoy in the beautiful setting of the gardens.
