Written Community Recognition Statements - National Volunteer Week 2025 at Southern Highlands Botanical Gardens

4th June, 2026.

During National Volunteer Week I was able to celebrate the extraordinary contribution of volunteers at the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens. Despite the steady rain, volunteers and supporters gathered during the week, where garden maintenance and community activities continued with great enthusiasm and spirit. It was also wonderful to celebrate the arrival of the Gardens' new mower, made possible through a NSW Community Building Partnership Grant—an important addition that will support the ongoing care and maintenance of this remarkable space, located on Wingecarribee Shire Council land, who also actively supports the gardens. Every time I visit the Gardens, they look more spectacular. The vibrant autumn colours have attracted record numbers of local and out of town visitors. I extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated Board, CEO Charlotte Webb and the operations team, the gardening volunteers, Plant Fair teams, Wingecarribee Shire Council and every volunteer who contributes their time, energy and passion. These Gardens simply would not exist without volunteers. They are about connection, friendship and community—a shared vision brought to life for future generations.
